Andy Reid, who is disgusted by Patrick Mahomes’ actions, is forced to leave the Chiefs training camp

Mahomes thought his coach overrreacted.

Kansas City Chiefs training camp is only a few days away, and Patrick Mahomes is already under the scope. This strained interaction with Andy Reid was caught on camera showing the Chiefs head coach walk away from his quarterback in disgust after one particular behavior caused the rift.

Coming off of their Super Bowl LVIII triumph, expectations are sky high once again for the Chiefs, who are on the hunt for a rare NFL three-peat. However, underneath the surface, Kansas City is a team that endured a tumultuous regular season in 2023, faces a media circus off the field following Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, and had to overcome a number of legal problems this offseason.

Andy Reid walks away from Mahomes

Their leader under center, two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, is the clear ring leader of the tight-knit team, but the attitude he showed at practice is getting under Reid’s skin.

The video from Chiefs social media shows Mahomes, Kelce and others such as star defensive lineman Chris Jones engaging in goofy behaviors that the account calls a “special language only football players speak.”

Clearly, Reid does not speak that same language. When Patrick Mahomes made an off-beat behavior, Big Red turned away from him and walked away. Mahomes felt that the reaction was not justified, according to his post on social media afterwards.

Mahomes’ reaction on social media

“why coach walk away like that!” Mahomes wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to the video posted by the Chiefs. His post included several laughing emojis, showing that neither of them took the interaction too seriously and saw the funny side of his antics.

That “language” referenced in the video might be beautiful to football players, but it seems Andy Reid is not quite on the same page. Kansas City Chiefs training camp begins in full on Sunday, July 21.
